CMAC Vice Chairman Dr. Li Hu Delivers A Speech at the 2020 China International Arbitration Summit

The 2020 China International Arbitration Summit, jointly organized by the China Academy of Arbitration Law(CAAL), Guangzhou Arbitration Commission, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) in Guangzhou from 28 to 29 October, 2020 attract over a thousand participants. Dr LU Pengqi, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Mr XIE Xiaodan, President of the Guangzhou Law Society, Mr LIANG Zhen, Deputy Director-General of Department of Justice, Guangdong and Mr. Eduardo Siqueiros of ICCA attend the opening ceremony and deliver welcome speeches. 

 

The summit titled "Navigate International Arbitration through HarTimes to Higher Stage" includes four sessions "International Arbitration in the Time of Pandemic: Response and Utilization ", "How Internet Arbitration Adapts to and Serves the Internet Economy,Considerations for Enterprises Choosing International Arbitration “and "Building China's International Arbitrator Team". 

 

Dr Li Hu, Vice Chairman of CMAC, chaired the "Building the Chinese International Arbitration Team" session, joined by Dr. C. Ryan Reetz, partner of the Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (Miami office), Professor KONG Qingjiang, Dean of International Law School, China University of Political Science and Law, Professor ChenWeizuo from Tsinghua University School of Law, Mr. Wang Zhengzhi, Director of Globe-Law Law Firm and Ms. Weng Mui KUOK, President of Macau Arbitration Association , held an in-depth discussion on how institutional arbitration could be more user-friendly, comparative research on international and domestic arbitration, and co-operation on training arbitration practitioners across mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan.

 

Dr Li Hu said that cultivation of a team of China-based international arbitration experts needs tacit cooperation among mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan. For arbitrators, arbitration lawyers, secretaries, institutional administrators, judicial personnel and other practitioners, the requirements are different. As arbitrators and professional lawyers are the main body among international arbitration practitioners, it is particularly important to emphasize on cultivation and reservation of international legal professionals who are specialized in international law and international trade rules with English-speaking ability, to guide Chinese legal experts to bolster their studies on issues related to alternative dispute resolution and to participate in dispute resolutions.
